Type Locality and Naming

Along the village of Badamchaly, N. Nuratau ridge. R.R. Usmanov et al. in 1984 (1988). In Y. Nuratau, the Badamchalin Fm was mapped and distinguished by R.S. Khan (1989) from the previously known Narculbulak, Kutbulak, Tusun, Shurchin, Tumsay, Sartbulak, Buratbulak formations.

Synonym: Badamchalin Suite, Бадамчалинская св., Badamchaly Fm


Lithology and Thickness

Slates are siliceous-mica, quartz-chlorite-sericite, chlorite-sericite of gray, greenish-gray, bluish-gray color, and dark-gray claystone (argillites) containing interlayers of sandstones and siltstone (aleurolites) of greenish-gray, yellowish-gray-green color with lenticular-wavy bedding. Thickness is no more than 130-200m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The lower contact is normal stratigraphic with the Kalsarinian Fm

Upper contact

The upper - stratigraphic contact is not established.

Regional extent

Southern slope of the N. Nuratau, Y. Nuratau, Gobduntau. In S. Nuratau, the deposits were previously included in the Cambrian-Lower Ordovician limestone-slate formations (Asatullaev et al., 1970, 1972; Pyatkov et al., 1975). R.R. Usmanov et al. (1988, 1999), R.S. Khan et al. (1989); on the State Geological Map 500 of Uzbekistan (460) the suite is attributed to the undifferentiated Ordovician with conformable lower and upper contacts. It is an analogue of the Aktiak Fm, developed on the northern slope of Karachatay. It is correlated with the Telibay Fm and Dzhilbirbay Fm in Bukantau, the middle part of the Ayakumar Fm in S. Tamdytau, the middle part and lower layers of the upper Kozmanachin Beds Fm in southern Tamdytau.

Fossils

The Arenig-Llandeilian age is established by graptolites - Expansograptus sp.; numerous finds of conodonts - Acontioduscf. rectus Lind., A. reclinatus Lind., Drepanodus arcuatus Pand., D. subarcuatus Furnisch., Oistodus gracilis Lind., O. parallelus Pand., O. inclinatus Br. et Mehl., Periodon Flabellum (Lind.), Cordylodus ramosus Had., C. cf. spinatus Had. and others; chitinozoans - Desmochitina ornensis Paris., D. minor f. cocca Eis., Conochitina inflata Taug. and others (165; Abdazimova et al., 1993, 1996).
